Post Compass Bowl

Total Points Leaders

Ladies and Gentlemen of The League-

SMU/Pitt didn't look like a thriller on paper...it wasn't. SMU dominated the game and easily upset the Panthers to take home the BBVT Compass Bowl trophy.

As non-climactic as the Compass Bowl was, the CFGL Bowl Season follows suit.  TP3s win on SMU ensures that he will be the Champion of Bowl Season 8.  Although Dee's Pimpin' is less than 20 points behind, he has duplicate picks as TP3 and has no way to overcome that lead.
The closest that a player will get is going to be Primetime, who has both Arkansas St and Alabama, which are both opposite picks from our champion, but even winning those two games would mean that he finished 1 point short of the title.
This is the first time in a few seasons that the Bowl Season fails to go to the last game of the season and is a far cry from last year's thrilling National Championship run for Mamacita, who is destined to finish this year in dead last place.

We will do a full summary of TP3's historic run when it is complete, but let's look at what could have been if three plays would have been different in the 33 games thus far.

  • On 12/30, Miss St. lined up for an XP after their first touchdown of the game against Wake Forest.  The kicker blew it and pushed it wide right, which was inconsequential to the outcome of the game, but had big impact on the CFGL.
  • Just about five hours later it was Oklahoma vs. Iowa in the Insight Bowl and the first three quarters were pretty lopsided. In the fourth, the Hawkeyes clawed their way back to within ten and a cover.  On 4th down and 2 from outside the 20, OU ran a QB power and the Freshman quarterback broke through the line and ran it in to put the Sooners up 17 and cover the spread.
  • The next morning, N'western scored two 4th quarter TDs to pull within one score and an apparent cover against Texas A&M.  TAMU moved the ball down to the NW side of the field and rather than run the clock out, decided to kick an FG with just seconds remaining.
Each of these three plays were huge when it comes to the outcome of The League.  With those games going the other way, here is what the standings would look like:
  1.  Well Hungarians- 399 (max 421)
    1. The Hungarians would only benefit from a 14 point win with MSU and would have needed an LSU win and would have needed to root against themselves in the Ark.St./NIU game tonight.  Strangely, the best win % of games would not have really had a chance down the stretch.
  2. Drew Bledsoe HOF- 393 (max 456)
    1. Drew would have been the favorite to win the CFGL.  N. Ill and Bama wins would have put him at the highest scoring of all time, benefiting from 41 more points w/MSU and Iowa covers.
  3. Dee's Pimpin'- 388 (max 436.5)
    1. Dee's would need a $line winner tonight to have a shot during the BCS National Championship.  MSU would have given him an additional 19 points that could be helpful now.
  4. C'mon Rookie - 380.5 (max 429.5)
    1. This rook would have benefited most from the three plays above with 54 points coming from MSU and Iowa.  With a NIU and LSU win in the next two nights, C'mon Rookie would have won the CFGL Bowl Season.
Where would our now champion, TP3 be had the ball bounced this way?  Texas A&M not covering his 34 point game would have definitely had an impact on his finish. In fact, that game ends up being the difference for him between a win and a loss in all scenarios.

Enjoy the games without the drama of the CFGL.  We will put out a final scoreboard after the BCS Championship game.
