Terrible offense in the BCS Championship catapults JB to the Bowl Championship

League-

In the closest finish in the history of the CFGL Bowl Season, JB squeaked out a win and holding off Together 4 Ever by a mere five points, 386 to 381.

JB's success was a result of a slow climb up the standings that was sparked by a day that Florida State and Miami both covered on his sheet and he won 10 of his next 15 games. JB finished with an incredibly accurate 64.9% of his points on his way to the victory.

In second place, T4E worked their way up the scoreboard, but the Ohio St/Texas game was the game where they finally gave up the lead. Finishing with a strong 64% correct and just five behind the winner it will surely have the rookie pair back for next year.

The top five had three rookies in it as IBlink finished fourth in his first run. The two veterans in the top five were Cockson, who in his fifth season turned in his best career performance finishing just nine points behind the winner in third place.

Last year's bowl champion, the First Lady finished in fifth place with another strong season. It is clear that she prefers the bowl season over the regular one.

We wouldn't be the CFGL if we didn't mention our worst efforts:

Deanchine finished at a dismal 27.9% of his possible points in one of the worst performances in the five years of the League. Rookie year can be tough and after a decent showing in the regular season, "The 'Chine" owes his loved ones an apology...but at least he is a rookie...

Rounding out the bottom feeders is a string of veterans who frankly should know better. One begins to wonder if Fluno will ever contend again. To have not even scored 200 points is an absolute shame to he and his picks, and he will subsequently be charged an additional $50 for next year's League fees...but it gets worse.

Fluno is a veteran, but has never won a championship which is not true of our next Biggest Loser, Hollywood. Hollywood showed that he is all flash in his Brendan Fraser-like peformance. We have often wondered about his style (full Jesus-like beard) but now his substance (or substance abuse) must be questioned as well. During this bowl season he started with a seven game losing streak and finished by losing 7 of his last 8 picks. Think about this...if the spread for the bowl season was Hollywood +200 you would have lost the house.

All three Johnson boys were beaten by the Johnson women...all part of the master plan to let them believe they have control and then have them pay our entry fees next year.

The biggest shame however, goes to the boy with the most misleading nickname...El P.innicle O.f M.ale E.volution, who shamed his gender doing the one thing we are supposed to be good at... watching sports. If Male Development were based on picks, POME wouldn't even have pubes yet. Tonto.

Thanks to all of you for participating in this year's version of the League. We are back and stronger than ever. We will be coming back for Season Six, so some of you need to start saving for your entry fees (you know who you are). 20 bucks a month until August should do it.

This is a tremendous amount of work for the Commish and Deeds, but we take pleasure in doing it and it continues to be the highlight of our sports year.

Thanks again, and we will see you next year. Look for emails in July! Tell a friend.

Love always,

Then there were two...down to the final game!

League-

Season V has been very good to us and we are at the end of the line with just one game left. As it should, the National Championship game determines not only the BCS champ, but also the CFGL Bowl champion. Winner takes the $1500 prize and second place doesn't. Here is how it has played out.

With Tulsa's cover last evening, Cockson is no longer mathematically alive to win the championship. Valiant effort, my friend.

The events of last nights game leaves JB on top of the league, but only by the amount he risked last night, which is seven. Had JB not won last night, we would have a very good possibility of going down to a tiebreaker after Thursday. Instead, Florida must cover the 3.5 spread and the game must go over 71.5 for Together4Ever to take home the money. If Oklahoma covers and/or it is an under game, JB will be a champion in his rookie year.

Above are the totals for the entire group. Enjoy the championship!

Down to the wire...

League-

The Ohio State cover last night means that it will come down to the last two games to decide the Bowl Champion.
Current standings are

JB- 362 points (24 possible left)
T4Ever- 348 points (33 possible left)
IBlink- 331 points (mathematically eliminated)
Cockson- 327 points (50 possible left)

If Tulsa covers or the GMAC Bowl is an over game, Cockson is eliminated.
If it is an under game and Ball St. covers, it will come down to all three players in the National Championship.

Enjoy the game, and look for an update afterwards.

With three games left...it is a three man race

League-

Thanks for your patience in waiting for this update.

There are actually six players that have not been eliminated by total possible points, however, with the picks in the games remaining only three of those are still mathematically alive.

Together4Ever leads the entire bowl season over JB by 16 points and IBLINK by 17. Cockson is 21 back but has the most points remaining and all have a chance to win it if all breaks just right.
Piso Mojado, First Lady and IBlink are still currently alive, but due to overlapping picks, none of them are able to win the title. I Blink comes closest but would fall two points short of T4E even in the best case scenario.
In hopes of giving this the most drama possible, the League has been running different scenarios for every possible outcome in the last three games. Here are some of the highlights:

  • For JB to win, Ohio St. MUST cover on Monday night. A Texas cover would leave T4E and Cockson to battle it out.
  • For Cockson to win, he must win the under and have Tulsa not cover (T4E's pick) and have Florida cover in the national championship game (in an over game).
  • Together 4 Ever currently holds the lead, and can win even if Texas doesn't cover on Monday. If the Longhorns don't cover, a Tulsa cover is crucial and an over game Florida cover is needed to hold off JB and Cockson.

In summary the Texas/OSU game will be a deciding game and will eliminate someone either Cockson or JB.

Best of luck to all three and another update will be posted sometime on Tuesday. Thanks for your patience while I ran all of these scenarios.

Sincerely-

Commish and Deeds

2009 picks are getting old for some already...

League-

Unreal movement on the board today. Con Ganas has scored seven straight wins, Piso Mojado hit eight straight, Honque, Together 4 Ever, and JB continue to show well through the New Year's games. But it is Cockson who has hit eight of his last ten and is on fire in converting on just over 70% of his points so far. There are a couple of big swing games on Friday and a number of people will be eliminated by the end of the day. Fluno becomes the first out this year with Seminole 26 ending his rookie year as the second person out. Many will join you soon.

Enjoy-

Happy New Year to All

League-

January 1st is always considered "moving day" in the league. Today is the most critical day for bowl season and by the end of the day it will be clear who is truly a contender, who needs lots of help to win, and who has been mathematically eliminated. Every game becomes a swing game today as scenarios change with every touchdown of every game.

Here is the update after the five games yesterday...
