Final Bowl Season Standings
After an year of great runs, terrible droughts, and fighting for positioning we finally have a Bowl Season Champion. In the closest finish in League History, Dee Pimpin' Em takes home his first Bowl Title with a 1/2 point win over League founder, El Gallo Negro.
There are so many stories within a bowl season, but nothing will over-shadow how close this finish truly was. Dee used a 28 point conversion on Alabama to outscore El Negro 324-323.5.
El Gallo looked dead after Jan 2nd, but scored 130 straight points, including a 31 point over pick on the National Championship. On the other hand, Dee missed the Fiesta, Orange, and GMAC and almost squandered his opportunity to win.
The Impact of Moneylines
Both El Gallo and our champion took advantage of Season Six's newest rule; the chance to pick moneylines. Dee converted a huge 11 pt $line in the first game to set the tone for his bowl season. Dee won a total of 18 bonus points with his moneylines while El GN picked up a whopping 29.5 points using the strategy of picking dogs straight up. Each player also lots games that they would have won with the points, but the good seems to have outweighed the risk.
The Rest of the Top 5
Scaga was third with 319, Primetime was 4th with 316, and Wilson 5th with 315.5
What Could Have Been
Not only was this a close finish for the top 2, however, the final game sealed the fate of others as well. All that separated GOW from his first significant finish was a pinched nerve in Colt McCoy's shoulder. Had Texas covered, Good Ol' Wigz would have won the title with a total of 335 points...that finish would have been just as close because in the case of a Texas win, Mamacita would have finished second with 334.5 and just a 1/2 point short of a title.
Another Story of "Almost"
It was Primetime who stayed in contention the longest as he led the season for almost a week prior to relinquishing his lead on the last night. Primetime fell victim to not having enough points in his final game to have a chance.
Someone Has to Finish Last
In one of the poorer performances in recent CFGL history, Chief finished with a 28% success rate and mustered just 167.5 points. Chief never really had a chance as he started by losing 9 of his first 11, including 33, 32, 31, 29, 27, 26, 25, and 24 point games. He lost a total of more than 100 points in a row twice and lost four straight three times. The good news is that he is on a winning streak after converting on the National Championship game...a 1 point win with Bama.
Other Odds and Ends...
- Mamacita led all the female contestants with a 12th place finish. Corky McButts finished 17th, First Lady 27th, and Oven finished 31st.
- In the Johnson family, El Gallo Negro took 2nd, Mamacita was 12th, Deeds 23rd, First Lady 27th, and Coach was in 30th.
- The Bynum brothers, Dee and Bizzem combining for the most points among brothers in the League.
- In the Hussion Family, Mile High and Hollywood finished 35 and 36th and converted just over 31% of thier picks combined, with the elder Hussion finishing just 3 points ahead of his brother.
- Our regular season champion, Dragon, had his hot streak end when he converted just 40% of his points.
- Last year's bowl champion, JB changed his name to Bizzem this year and finished in 15th.
- Despite mid-season controversy about scoring, Holy Trinity led all rookies and finished in 7th place with 306.5 points.
- The top 12 finished with better than 50% of their points won and the League average for points converted was only 44%.
- This was the lowest total scoring Bowl Season in CFGL history and the lowest winning score in our six years.
Bottom Line
In the end, the true story of this entire season is the dominance of the Bynum Brothers. Dee wins the Bowl Season the year after his brother, JB. Like Peyton handing the Super Bowl trophy to Eli, the Bynums are on top of the world. Add that to their regular season performance which had JB edging Dee by a half point for second place and it is easy to see them being the first two competitors going into the CFGL Hall of Fame when it opens.
The CFGL would like to leave you all with one more thought...
The top seven finishers in the Bowl Season were veterans that have been competing for all 6 years. The League has gotten better and better every year and it is because of people that return year after year. The League sincerely hopes that you enjoyed the seasons and that in 7 months you all will be back for another "go round".
There is total appreciation for all of our members and we look forward to the storylines, droughts, and runs of CFGL 2010. Spread the word and continue to believe.
A prosperous year to all from the CFGL.
Love,
Commish and Deeds
