CFGLers-
Good dayand Happy New Year's Eve to all.  Yesterday and this morning's games defined what it means to be in the CFGL, and proved the age-old rule, "Every point matters, there is no such thing as a meaningless score."  The League felt the impact of our first "push" of the Bowl Season, a missed XP, and a "cheapie" TD on a game already sealed, and a FG when a kneel out was all that was necessary...all four events happened had a dramatic impact on scoring.

  • Yesterday kicked off the madness when BYU scored with :11 seconds left to give the CFGL the first tie of the bowl season.  As the rules state, a tie awards half of the risked points and that impacted some big risks.  The bigger the risk, the more impact the tie has.  Frank the Tank, TP3, Aunt Betty, and Juice all had over 20 on the game as they try to claw back into the top of the standings.
  • After a less exciting game between Rutgers and ISU, it was an early missed XP by Miss St. and a mismanaged the clock at the end of the first half that led to their 23-17 victory.  I am not a podiatrist, so why am I so focused on the kicking game?  It was these two key plays that were the first flip of the night for CFGL scoring.  The Dogs didn't cover their 6.5 point spread and that has lasting effect on the scoreboard.  That single point cost the CFGL 591 and  109 points were won.  The game had the biggest impact on C'mon Rookie,Air Raid, Jamie O'Hare, Hammes, and the Mormon Whores who all risked more than 30 on the SEC team. The beneficiary of the Wake cover?  Our current points leader, Team Wigley and newcomer Twinsons...
  • To cap the evening off and very late in the night, Oklahoma handled Iowa for an easy win.  But a late Iowa surge cut the lead to just 10 and OU simply needed to run the clock out for the win.  On 4th down from outside the Iowa 20, freshman Blake Bell, "Belldozer" as they call him, ran a QB power right into the heart of the Hawkeye line.  Or should I say into the heart-less Iowa line, who couldn't tackle and allowed a no-pride TD and OU cover.  The results of this one were devastating for many in the CFGL.  378 points on Iowa +14 went down the League drain, and 422 points onto the scoreboard.  This kind of swing is what defines winning and losing during the bowl season.  In fact, of our current top 5, only C'mon Rookie did not get the benefit of the OU cover.
  • The TAMU/NW game this morning continued the trend of every play matters.  Though A&M dominated the first three quarters, NW scored twice in the 4th and needed a stop to have a chance to win and more importantly, to cover.  The lead was 30-22 and within the 10 point spread with just a minute to go.  TAMU had the opportunity to simply run the clock out and secure the victory, but instead kicked a "meaningless" FG with :30 to go.  This extended the margin of victory to 11 and crushed the hopes of many in the CFGL.  13 players see 318 points disappear and 21 players say hello to a total of 420 points.

As for the scoreboard:
The standings for the bowl season is taking shape and by the end of the day, we will have played 23 of our 35 games.

Leaders
  • Team Wigley has led from the very first game and continues to hold onto a 37.5 point lead over Twinsons, the rookie that she referred to the CFGL.  It is no accident that the two at the top of the League both benefited from all three "swing games" mentioned above.  Wigley has the least points remaining, but is setting a very high bar for what it will take to win.
  • It is the rookie, Twinsons, who has taken over the win percentage lead with almost 77% of his points converted.  He has done it by going 7-1-1 in his last nine.  During that stretch, he has converted his 35, 30, 28 and 26 point game.  With 269 remaining he could very well be the one to beat...
  • Simon's Wrecking Crew now has the most possible points of anyone of the League.  His leading that statistic means that he has a good number of points left (440) and has converted at a strong percentage on his picks so far (71%).  This makes Simon's Crew a real contender down the stretch.
Others to watch
  • The Well Hungarians go12-2 since losing their 32 pt TCU game and is now top 5 in all categories.
  • Wilson is 11-2-1 since losing his 30 point TCU game and is now in the top 5 in all categories.
  • Despite being a victim to both MSU and Iowa last night and losing NW today, Drew Bledsoe is still hitting 66% of his games and is among the leaders for highest possible.
  • C'mon Rookie got robbed of 54 points last night, but remains in 4th place overall.
As for the bottom

  • For the first time in League history, last year's bowl champion, Mamacita finds herself in last place in the standings for total points.  She has connected on 42% of her picks, and converted on 35% of her points.  This leaves her with just 68 total points.
  • Drunken Sailor has been bad from the start and continued his poor run dropping his overall win percentage to right around 30%.
  • Among some of the worst streaks, First Lady has lost 5 straight and 8 of 10, her husband and League co-founder Deeds is 2-6-1 in the last 9, Scaga is 2 of his last 10 including his last five.
Four games remain today and then we are off until January 2nd.  Enjoy the day and be safe this evening.  Happy New Year from the CFGL.

CFGLers-

It was a pretty wild last 48 hours with three of the four games going down to the wire to cover.
Purdue held off a W. Michigan charge late to ensure that Barndawg did not cash in his 34 point game, and robbed Seminole 26 and Team Wigley of their 31 and 26 pt game respectively.  Meanwhile, C'mon Rookie saw something nobody else did in the Boilers and cashed in his 35 point game.
NCST got up early and Louisville couldn't convert after a risky 4th down go, losing the game 31-24.  NCST cover resulted in big points for Michigan Hates U, iBlink, Sooners2000, and Dee's Pimpin.
Air Force went for two and the S/U win in the last :30 of the game and their failure meant only a cover. Aunt Betty, Double Bird, and Twinsons hit big with that one.
The Texas game put many to sleep, but this morning the League wakes up to big points.  Cal looked helpless against the Horns' defense and over 60% of the League won the game.

As for the scoreboard:

  • Michigan Hates U, El Tejon, Sooners2000, and Urban Cowboy sweep the last two days of picks. It is Michigan benefiting the most with 103 points, and Urban Cowboy has won six straight.
  • The grind of The League starts to impact many, with ten players losing three of their last four.  That includes Frank the Tank, giving away 78 straight, iBlink losing 70, and La Maquina dropping 60+.
  • Dee's Pimpin' slaps the shit out of his last three for a total of 72 won, and The Well Hungarians have converted 146 of their last 166, only Toledo cockblocked them over their last seven.
And the Next Six...
Next Six Games
  • Today's games include the ND/FSU showdown that could tear apart a family as Mr. Kasey Johnson travels into the lion's den and watches his beloved Seminoles in the Johnson house.  Is a win the best thing for his impending marriage to Mrs. Kasey Johnson?  The rest of The League will watch through the lens of 22 FSU picks, 12 Irish picks, and 11 over picks.
  • Baylor is the most picked team of the Bowl Season as ZERO people have picked the Huskies. Should be a shootout, with an O/U of 78.5 points.
  • 12/30 there are four games that are pretty evenly split.  When we finish tomorrow's games, we will be just past the halfway point of the season, 18 games completed.

Enjoy.

Broncos, Eagles, Tigers predictably cover for the League

CFGLers-
After three straight games with extremely high conversions (Boise St.,SMiss, Mizzou) the CFGL enters a stretch of three games with an even distribution of picks.
  • Tuesday afternoon's Purdue/WMU game has 22 Purdue picks, 18 WMU picks and nine who picked the O/U. I am sure that this is what Little Caesar envisioned when pitting these two powers against each other.
  • The Belk Bowl, yes, Belk Bowl, matches NCST and Louisville in a game with picks split among the favorite, the dog and the over.
  • Wednesday afternoon, MAC power Toledo is favored over the Air Force Academy in a game with an O/U of 70.  Rookies Frank the Tank and Double Bird Strike have 33 and 32 points risked respectively on Toledo in this showdown.
  • A Cal win over Texas would send shockwaves through The League as Texas is heavily picked to cover the 3.5 point spread.  Last year's second place finisher Aunt Betty's Fried Chicken makes the 'Horns his top picks and Schematic Advantage risks 33.
Here are the picks for the next four games:
Next Four Picks
As for the Leaderboard, here are the highlights:
  • Drew Bledsoe in the HOF, is making his play for League enshrinement with an incredible 87.5% of his points converted.  This rookie is making a historic run of wins by winning his last seven picks.  Early on he rode the underdog with Ohio, ULL, Marshall, and LaTech wins, and has converted 84 straight points.  In fact, his % is misleading because his loss includes a moneyline pick, which means he has only given away his 5 point pick.  His actual conversion rate is 84 of 89 and a dominant 93%.
  •  If Drew's historic streak falters, Jamie O'Hare is a rookie to watch for.  Named after Vince Vaughn's character in Rudy, the greatest sports movie of all-time, O'Hare is showing as much heart as Ruettiger did.  Currently in 4th place with 110 points, this duo has only given away 25 points in the first 7 games.

  • iBlink is currently threatening to surpass the all-time bowl season high score with a best possible of 653.5, helped by 23 points on $line/dog game picks.  He has already hit his 34 and 28 point game and has an gaudy 85% win percentage.  The Blink has been a fixture at the top of The League for years now and may cash in a bowl win this year, if Bledsoe slips up.

  • The Doctor has converted over 85% of his points and is taking the slow and steady approach to his games.  Only having risked 61 points in 7 games means that The Doctor is around for the long haul.  Winning three straight games didn't hurt either.
At the bottom of The League standings, Drunken Sailor is picking like one, with his total possible the first to dip below 500.  Seminole26 is out of the office this week and has given away his 32, 33, and 34 point game.  Michigan Hates U seems to hate the bowl format with 26% converted, and the League wonders if TP3, Juice, and Hammes will ever see the top again.

Enjoy the next couple of days of games.  Next update comes Thursday morning.

Best Possible Score

Current Points Leaders

% of points converted
CFGLers-

We are now five games into the season and have already seen three upsets in the smaller bowls.  The Dog Games are proving to be very valuable early on with a total of 57 bonus points won.
Last night's TCU/LaTech resulted in the largest single game losses in Bowl Season history, with 37 points converted out of 871 risked.  Only Drew Bledsoe, Cinderella Story, and Frank the Tank converted points in this game. For the Good of The League.

Even five games in, The League is seeing dramatically different strategies from various players and one can't help but be intrigued by the impending storylines.

Once again, Team Wigley is out to a very fast start with her 35 and 34 point games winning in the first two nights.  She leads the League with 69, but has been stuck in that "position" (insert your innuendo here) for the past three games.
On the other end of the strategy spectrum is Wigley's nemesis, Hollywood Hussion.  He has risked the least amount possible with just 15 put out there in the first five games.  One begins to wonder if this is indicative of Hollywood's inability to "risk" himself emotionally in relationships. Without risk comes no rewards, my friend.  Perhaps The League should stick to diagnosing football.
That said, we have a couple of Mormon Whores walking the streets in the worst neighborhood of the CFGL.  The Whores are 0 for their first 5, but it is likely rejection that fuels their degrading lifestyle.
Mentally Denarded has to be questioning how he things could have turned out this way as he hovers above the Whores.  The answer is shitty picks, with just 1.08% of his points converted.
Barndawg begged to be humbled after his first two games hit for 58 and he went on Facebook to celebrate himself.  He has lost 68 straight points since.  No one is bigger than the CFGL.

Overall, the top of the standings (total points) are a bit misleading as they are every year.  The top 5 players have converted less than 50% of points risked.  Lurking behind them are The Doctor, with over 79% converted on less risked, followed by rookies Bledsoe and O-H-I-O over 73% each.

Boise St., So. Miss, and Missouri are the big favorites for the CFGL in the next three games.  Enjoy the games and the Christmas Holiday.  More updates coming soon.

12.19 Bowl Update

Ladies and Gentlemen of The CFGL- We are three games into the bowl season and after a huge Temple cover, and two $ line winners from a MAC and SunBelt team the CFGL is off and running. Above are the picks for the next three games as well as the scoring from the first three. A few things about each of the columns in the scoreboard:
  1. Total Points risked- This column tells you how many points each competitor has risked through the first three games.
  2. Total Points- This column gives the number of points that have been converted in the first three games.
  3. Best Possible- This column totals the highest possible score each competitor can get based on games won, lost, and takes into consideration $ lines.
  4. Win %- This column tells you the % of points risked that have been converted by each player.  This is the column to follow as it typically gives the best sense of who is in the driver's seat regardless of total score.
  5. Correct Picks- This column simply lists the  % of correct picks.  It is not tied to the points risked on games and is pretty irrelevant in some cases.
Also, please note that in the highest possible and total points columns, the highest five scores are in green and the lowest five scores are in red.

Below are the picks and points risked for the next three games.  Please note that if a player has picked a $line, the number in parenthesis includes their risked points as well as the moneyline bonus for the upset.
Updates will be sent out every couple of games and we hope that you enjoy the Bowl Season.
Please reach out to Deeds or Commish with any questions about scoring, etc.

THE BARNDAWG IS ONE BAD SON OF A BITCH, RIPS TITLE FROM AIR RAID BY 1.5

As suspected, the CFGL8 Championship came down to the very end. Quite literally. With the night games still in progress, the League title changed hands several times. A for sure pick-6 to cover the over in the Clemson game was erased by a shoestring tackle at the 50 yard line. The tackle killed Michigan Hates U’s perfecto, which would’ve given him the title. Then, minutes later in the Big Ten Championship, Wisconsin converted a Hail Mary down to the 3-yard line on 4th down, which led to a Badger and Barndawg lead. With only a minute left, Michigan St. returned a punt inside the 5-yard line and it looked like Air Raid would take the title. However, a running into the kicker called it back and the Barndawg won and then pissed the carpet. Congrats to the rookie who was able to stay in the hunt all year long by playing aggressive. He held the #1 spot in Week3, Week10, Week13 and then held on by only 1.5 this final week.

Although Air Raid came up just short of the Title he still proved to be the best amongst the talent-rich Shapiro All-Stars as he extended his lead to capture the Conference. #5 Schematic Advantage scored a 60 and held off Wilson for second in the conference but Wilson still moved up one to #7. It’s good to see the 8-year vet get in the money. Please know the League loves you deeply. The All-Stars also got the #10 spot, as Double Bird Strike barely hung on after posting a 25.

The sub-zero temperatures on Planet Weis this year made it nearly impossible for teams to stay hot. But it was ultimately iBlink who generated the most heat by hitting his top 3 games and snatching the most unimpressive Conference Title of the year. Nonetheless, #13 iBlink gets the green. Rum Bomber started off strong, but he lost his 25 game on V Tech and in turn, lost the Planet. While Team Wigley was a fixture in the Planet throne all year long, she only got 2 of 5 and fell to #20 to end the season. The Sooner faithful finished at #13 last year and #8 in CFGL6, making it obvious that ex-boyfriend Hollywood Hussion was the key contributor of her success. Hollywood finished at #42, remaining remarkably consistent with the #23, #37 and #24 of the past three years. However, despite his recent struggles, the seven-year vet won the CFGL2 and his name will forever hang in the CFGL rafters.

Jamie O’Hare went 4 for 5 and lit up the scoreboard with a 70 to win him the Testeverde Ten conference title. Behind him, Coach and Brown Eye fell to the mid-teens after average weeks. After 8 years of practice, Dees Pimpin’ Em finished at #48 but we all know his specialty is Bowl Season. Let’s see if vet has some magic left.

The Wuerffel is now officially Barndawg’s territory after the rookie stayed in mounting position for most of the year. Last year’s Bowl Champion, Mamacita, put together a huge week to win her the conference bonus and shoot up to a tie for #3 with Michigan Hates U. #3 and #4 prize money will be combined and split down the gut. First Lady also got in the green despite the former-champ falling from #5 to #8. Glad that my mom and sister-in-law can continue to participate/humiliate me in the League each year.

Only two teams in the Urban Heart Division walked out alive and Michigan Hates U was one of them as he hit a three-team parlay and jumped up from #13 to tied at #3. He bags the Conference Title from NxT_Lvl who’s 25 was able to keep in the green by only 1.5 points. However, not everyone performed well enough to get paid. Despite the claim of their massive size, The Well Hungarians ultimately came up just short, and finished a ½ point out of the money at #11. Remarkably enough, this is the second year in a row that the Smith trio has finished a half point out of #10. And, in CFGL6, they were #10. They just can't get over the hump. After the disaster, the Left Ball of the dejected Well Hungarians summed it up perfectly, “I don’t know how much ‘good but never good enough’ business I can take.” Just as heart-broken is sure to be Juice who hit a season-high 140 points, yet came up 3.5 shy of #10.

This year was the best regular season yet and the League will only get better. That said, its only half over. Let’s crank up Bowl Season. Rules and lines to be posted soon.

The Commissioner and Deeds.

  • Air Raid leads by 3 over Barndawg and they have the same picks for the two remaining championship games, but for differing point values.
  • First Lady holds 3rd, but Michigan Hates U has a parlay and perfecto pending that would shoot him into the top 3.
  • Double Bird Strike, Schematic Advantage, NxTLvL, and Drew in the HOF all fight for position in the top 10 with a shot at the top 5.
  • Jamie O'Hare has shot into the 10th spot but only leads Mamacita by 1 point.
  • iBlink has grabbed control of Planet Weis by winning his 25,20, and 15 game and begins to separate from RumB, Wigley, and Scaga.
